Hon. Susan Mang’eni

Hon. Susan Auma Mang’eni, CBS, leads the Government of Kenya’s national agenda to turn micro, small and medium enterprises into competitive, innovative and sustainable businesses capable of creating quality jobs, expanding exports and attracting investment. She is an entrepreneurship advocate and a public-sector leader with close to 15 years of leadership and governance experience.

As Principal Secretary she provides strategic oversight of policy and programmes spanning MSME financing, financial inclusion, enterprise formalisation, technology adoption, business development services, market access and value chain development. Her portfolio includes the Financial Inclusion Fund, widely known as the Hustler Fund, the Kenya Jobs and Economic Transformation Project, and the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement programme, alongside affirmative financing interventions for women, youth and persons with disabilities.

Her governance experience spans the boards of the Youth Enterprise Development Fund, the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis and the Competition Tribunal of Kenya. She holds a Master of Arts in Entrepreneurship Development and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Public Administration.

At Bullish Africa she makes the case for Kenya as a strategic gateway to the continent and for African MSMEs as investable enterprises rather than recipients of development aid, pressing investors, financial institutions and development partners on the blended finance, credit guarantee and impact investment instruments that put patient capital behind growth-oriented businesses.
